World Wide Web peaked in 2025
The world wide web as a place of information and marketplace of goods and services has probably reached it peak in 2025. It will still be alive and kicking for a few more decades, just like Radio and Television still exists, but the cultural peak is behind us as we step in 2026.
These are the stats of the public internet:
Size of the public internet: 150 Zetabytes
Time it will take an average human to read/watch the entire internet: 1 million+ years.
History of human beings: 300,000 years
Time taken by AI to consume the entire inernet: 2-3 years
AI could recreate the public internet in: 3-6 Months
% of Internet that is AI generated: 15-20% today
% of Internet that will be AI generated by 2030: 50%+
You don’t need to be an AI nerd to understand that we won’t be searching for restaurants or weather or flights or shopping online catalogs for a hand cream or christmas gifts.
AI will create the flight schedules and pricing for airlines, my AI assistant will book it for me. AI will create shopping pages for products, my AI assistant will buy things for me. AI will create news from some human input, and my AI will summarize it for me.
Science fiction movies always create this future paradigm of a dystopian dysfunctional physical world, but I think it is our digital world that will be devoid of humans, that will look like a graveyard for our digital twins.
We won’t look at Google Flights or Amazon or Wikipedia anymore. our AI will. Entertainment and Communication online will stay relevant longer, but if our brains could be so easily taken by AI algorithim, our brains will definitely be taken over by AI content run by AI creators and alogorithims.
Communication will be the last bastion, we love communicating with each other. But will we launch several AI avatars on text, dating platforms, video calls etc to have lots of parallel conversations. Maybe.
If industrial revolution solved the physical labor problem, the AI revolution is solving the mental labor problem.
