The Only Ratio That Matters
Our potential is a function of our imagination, ability to be our imagination and resources around us.
Our imagination can be captured by what we tell ourselves and others. I don’t know about you but my mind fires up new ideas, possibilities that brightens my soul, and I forget probably 90% of them and the 10% I do remember, most I sacrifice at the altar of execution.
Maybe that is just life - we are meant to be more curious than we will ever have time. Maybe there is beauty in unfinished ideas, some of the best pieces of art were never finished in the artists lifetime and procastination seems to be the favorite mistress of imaginative minds.
But there are things I think about often, ideas which just don’t leave me, the ideas that make me restless in bed and I wake up with deep anxiety wanting to pursue - my heart beating as I get up. I must chase them, I must bring them to life.
These are ideas you usually speak to your friends, declare to a stranger when drunk, speak aloud to a lover when the oxytocin is making you dizzy. These are ideas that find themselves scribbled on napkins in a cute cafe on vacation.
I have ideas - I have many. I have been responsible for bringing 4 different ideas to life - all in the forms of some venture. Some intentioned to profit and scale, some intentioned to bring joy and purpose - though the lines always blend - joy and capitalism can surprisingly go hand in hand for some. Anyway, I digress.
I have concluded that the only thing that matters is the ideas you speak out aloud, your body has decided that in your limited time on this planet - this will be your gift to the world. This is how you will make the world better, richer and leave something behind.
So all that matters is Doing/Saying Ration.
How many things did I tell my friends, lover, strangers, and the world that I will do and I actually did them. This ratio is important in creation because words are cheap and so are dreams, and doers as so far and few in between that the world dances around them.
I want to dance with the world. I love creating. This is the ratio I think I am going to live my life by - how many things I have the courage to say and then make sure I pursue them with every molecule of my existence.
This builds trust with others. This makes others want to play and build with you.
